Day 5: Lucerne

We were up at 5 am to catch a tram to the train station. It was a smooth ride through the mountains down to Lucerne.

This was the first of 5 trips to Coop today. Started with a beautiful little mozzarella pizza stick. It’s so different from Costco but also so good. How do a I have room in my heart for both? Idk, big heart I guess.

I would have never found this barcode, luckily they have the nicest staff.

Loading our bags into a lockbox at the train station.

Tried to play cards here but their decks don’t have kings, queens, and jacks. Still confused about this.

Spotted this Honda Prelude through the coffee shop window.

I wonder if Owen would like this. He’s really picky about cars.

We started a self guided walking tour and Jean pulled out this assortment of drugs.

He was greeting people along the path. Wish I had something to feed him.

View of the city from an ancient wall. They used these things to block people from entering the city before we could fly I guess.

The wall had towers. This tower had a bell. It was loud up there and we were unprepared because it goes off 1 minute before all the other bells in the city as a sign of respect.

Dying to know what this is about.

Not many pets here. I think people here just embrace their sadness instead of trying to cope.

Last stop on the walking tour was this carved lion.

Literally no one in their right mind would be impressed by this if they’ve seen Mount Rushmore. I was trying to explain this to people. Hopefully my google review will bring awareness.

We loaded onto this double decker for our second bus tour. Derek was blown away by the BO of the couple in front of us. Hopefully they don’t speak English because Derek is a loud whisperer.

This bus takes you up a mountain to a gondola.

You could hear lots of cowbells. I wonder where the cows go during ski season.

Gondola takes you to the mega gondola. Room for 70 people(according to Andy), and it rotates!

This was called like the sky flyer or something. Couldn’t see a damn thing but the lift was heated and there was lots of friendly shouting between the chairs.

They take your photo like cedar point.

Took him a few runs but he finally nailed this pose.

Derek had to get one in.

No one was talking about this tower. What the hell is happening in there?

If it wasn’t clear by now, we were some of the only white people up here. Apparently this is a bucket list destination for India people because they shoot a lot of their movies here I guess.

Chicken curry was unexpected but fire.

This is what a glacier looks like on the inside. They talked a big game about trying to preserve the glaciers but they also drilled this massive tunnel into one.

Black onto the mega gondola. Nothing to hold on to so lots of contact with strangers.

Gobbless! Back into the mini gondolas.

The town is empty during the summer. I’d love to come back and snowboard with Caleb and Aidan, and hell, maybe even Travis if he ever takes his board out!

Checking into our hotel.

Back to Coop for some wine and a snack! Huge Jolanda fan!

Eventually we went out of some pizza and watched the sunset over this footbridge thing. Ended the night with a walk around the city talking to my girlfriend on the phone. Great day and 29,626 steps! Thanks for reading my blog. Tomorrow we are finally going to Italy. I hope it’s warmer there because I can’t keep wearing these pants every day.

Ciao!
